Writing
a Letter
The
Honorable ___________
Indiana
House of Representatives [or] Indiana State Senate
Statehouse
200
W. Washington Street
Indianapolis,
IN 46204
This
is the most effective method for communicating with lawmakers.
Be brief and logical, refer to specific legislation and bill
numbers, provide any personal examples possible, be courteous
instead of angry and explain your views.

Placing
a Phone Call
Senators
(317)
232-9400
(800)
382-9467
Representatives
(317)
232-9600
(800)
382-9842
The
same suggestions apply for phone calls as letters and it helps
to prepare a few points before you call. When you call the
switchboard, ask to speak to a specific legislator. You will be
forwarded to the legislator directly or to an assistant.

Sending
an Email message
Senators:
s#@ai.org
Representatives:
r#@ai.org
Replace
the "#" symbol with the
legislator’s district number (see the roster for district
#’s).
The
same rules apply to e-mail as letters, but being brief and
concise is even more important. Resist the urge to fire
off an abrupt or angry e-mail to a legislator. Remember,
this is not face-to-face and your wording and punctuation
content will be interpreted by the receiver accordingly. |
